Let’s roll out your yoga mat and discover the combination of the physical practice, breath work and mindfulness that for thousands of years have been practiced around the world.  The amazingness of yoga is, you don’t have to be a yogi to receive all the benefits. Whether you are young or old, overweight or fit, yoga has the power to calm the mind and strengthen the body. And do not be intimidated by yoga terminology, beautiful yoga studios and complicated poses. Yoga is for everyone and can be done anywhere at anytime.

And we have all leaned the benefits of a regular yoga practice are astounding. The physical practice of yoga at any level can help strengthen your back and joints keeping them healthy, define your muscles, burn calories, improve your overall posture and balance. Yoga also has a restorative side that is deeply relaxing and rejuvenating. It may take several lessons to feel the flow or get into the relaxation zone but it WILL happen. Similar to a runner’s high, yoga has a high of its own. The high is in how when linking breath to body through the yoga practice, the nervous system settles. Every time you practice yoga, moving your body and synchronizing those movements with your breath, energy flows and it releases tension. Ultimately, releasing tension helps you surrender. Yoga helps you find and stay in that easy state of flow, mind body and spirit so you may surrender and bring yoga off your mat and into the world.

Let’s get started. I’m down, how about you?

Have you ever felt too uncomfortable or shy to join a public class but you want to see what yoga is? Or maybe you suffer from anxiety or insomnia and need help unwinding at the end of the day. Perhaps yoga is your jam but you are too busy to seek out a yoga class at a studio, or prefer to go straight home at the end of the day. If the above is speaking to you, Skype Yoga is for you! Now you can soak up the benefits of yoga from the privacy of your own home. Skype yoga can bridge the gap between a private lesson in person, and a class at a studio. With the simple Skype technology I will be right in the room with you throughout the entire class.

It is a different way to practice but highly effective. Different than a YouTube video or online yoga class, you will have me right there to answer any questions and I can offer verbal cues, to help you find the place in the pose that is good for you.

Skype yoga is Awesome

We place our screens in a way that we can see and hear each other. I will then guide you verbally and can even demonstrate each pose for you to follow along with. At the end of each session you will have the chance to talk with me about your likes and dislikes and ask me any questions that you have. Sessions are scheduled in the 60 75 and 90 minute format.

Yoga teaches us the importance of helping others. The word Seva is a Sanskrit word that in its simple form means selfless service.

“Seva” is an act of compassion and care for others above oneself and it is taught widely as part of Yoga teacher training. In fact, some people believe all yoga should be free. And while that is not a sustainable ideal in this day and age, there isn’t a reason why some classes cannot be free. Its just good karma people.

Free community and donation based classes is one specific way yoga teachers can give back to the communities they live and work in. We can reach a wider demographic of citizens that may not otherwise be able to afford yoga on a regular basis and it also allows students to practice in unique venues and outside locations they may not otherwise venture to.

And Seriously who doesn’t like to hear the soothing sounds of the waves and watch the sun lift out of the horizon in all its beauty. AND with the added bonus of a free class? It just doesn’t get much better than that!

In Barre class we use a combination of postures inspired by ballet incorporating other influences like yoga and pilates. The barre is used as a prop to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training like in ballet. Combine this with higher reps of small range-of-motion movements, it is a full body work out. Light hand weights and small balls are sometimes used to strengthen and lengthen but also to bring the muscles a little burn and it just wouldn’t be a proper barre class without an energizing and uplifting playlist. Not to worry, all MBY barre classes are for all levels of practice, and it is go at your own place style. Because seriously, we do all want you to be able to walk the next day, right?

Adding yoga into your regular workout program is beneficial on many levels. It can help prevent injury, relax muscles, and keep you flexible.  It increases oxygen levels and after class you will feel an overall sense of wellbeing that can become deliciously addictive, in an amazing way!

Private lessons are not only for the beginner, it is for anyone at any level that wants to unlock more keys to understanding their physical body. Even advanced practitioners can learn how they can improve by learning the proper techniques and tools in a private lesson to advance their practice.

I know of many students who were hesitant at first to attend a yoga class because they felt intimidated in the large group dynamic. Please allow me to convince you-taking a few private yoga sessions will be well worth the investment and also can help you muster up the courage to participate in a group yoga class.

For the beginner, I will take the time to show you how to get into and out of every pose properly while considering any limitations or injuries you may have. I’ll offer yoga props to assist you until your body gets used to the poses and i’ll use hands on assists and queuing to help you understand how the pose should feel.

Gone should be the train of thought that says “I’m just not flexible.” or “ i’ll never touch my toes”.  If you have never practiced yoga before, chances are you aren’t that flexible. I’m here to convince you, THATS OK! Increased flexibility comes with practice and there is no such thing as being terrible at yoga. Yoga does not care if you can touch your toes. The discipline of yoga is a journey that is between you and yourself. Breathe, move and grow, its that simple.

Above all,  the best thing a private yoga instruction will give you is the opportunity to help you go deeper to the place where your can become more comfortable in your skin, and to help you glow outward for others to see. And isn’t that a beautiful thing to explore? Let me help you on your yoga journey.
